Mountains, Mystery, Romance: Can you run from your past?
Harriet Anderson’s life is spiralling out of control. Unused to such mayhem, she ditches her high-powered job to take refuge in the Swiss Alps where she meets Philippe Smith, a crime writer with a dark and shadowy past. Thrown together by chance, is their fate intertwined? Will the karma and romance of the mountains and the quaintness of the Alps soothe their troubled souls?
Or will their rocky paths create avalanches that cannot be avoided…
Jane Green, author of 16 New York Times bestsellers: “Nicky, huge congratulations on taking the decision to self-publish! I wish you every success. Warmest wishes, Jane”
Erica James, author of 19 bestselling novels: “Nicky, I wish you well with publication and the charities you’re supporting. With best wishes, Erica.”

I will make a donation from the royalties to a number of charities who have supported me and my family over the years, but particularly: Childhood Tumour Trust (supporting children with Neurofibromatosis 1 – a genetic condition where, amongst many other difficulties, tumours grown along nerves in the body and on the skin); and Auticulate – improving social, communication and independence skills of children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
LOSE YOURSELF IN MY “WORLD OF WORDS”
“Never Again” can be digested in many different places with many different accompaniments:
Swinging on a hammock in the sun…
Lounging on a beach in exotic locations, perhaps with a cool cocktail or two …
Curled up on the sofa with a hot cup of tea, or coffee or hot chocolate…
Or indeed anywhere else you can think of.
So grab a cuppa or a glass of something chilled; let me take you on a journey away from chores and stresses, anxieties and humdrum days, as you step into the Swiss Alps and lose yourself in the intricately woven lives of Harriet and Philippe.
I hope you enjoy reading “Never Again” as much as I loved writing it.
AND FINALLY, MY THANKS GOES TO
PS . . . it takes more than one person to write a novel. “Never Again” has truly been a team effort. I would like to thank the following people for all their help and support over the past two years. This list, however, is not definitive, so a big thank you to all those who I have omitted to mention (sorry!).
Writing ‘Never Again’ has certainly been a marathon, not a sprint. It has tipped me into unfamiliar territory, such as website and book cover design and other areas that I didn’t expect to venture into.
A big thank you to all those who read through my manuscript and made suggestions: Beth, who read through it twice! (my biggest fan so far); Sam (who was ‘big’ and is now ‘small’); Ann (my muse); Sam (my son); Jennifer (the journey we’ve been on together…); and Moira (fewer “howlers” these days!), who also dreamed up the title. Their observations and encouragement have been invaluable.
My writing group, who have provided endless advice and support over the years. I don’t think I would have reached ‘The End’ without them. A particular mention has to go to: Chrissie, who not only read my novel from cover to cover and gave me great insight, but then edited 50% of it – no mean feat; Bernard, who gave me very detailed feedback on the whole novel – I learned a lot from his suggestions and humour…; and Jo who, amongst other things, dreamed up my nifty Twitter handle: ‘@NickyNovelist’.
Emma (in Austria) for her advice and guidance on many issues, including book covers, book blurb and how to decipher Twitter; she set me on the bumpy path to building up my followers (without buying them!).
All of my very special friends who get me through life, one day at a time, in a vaguely sane frame of mind.
Last, but of course not least, Mark, my hubby, who loses me for hours at a time as I in turn lose myself in my ‘world of words’. Oh yes, and for proof-reading my novel before publication (so you know who to blame if there are any typos!). Given Mark does not read romances, I truly appreciate his dedication!
And I have to mention my two teenage sons, Sam and Thomas, who have helped me no end with a great variety of technical issues and the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of posting on social media and websites. And mum, who always thinks I am fantastic and champions me tirelessly.
I would love to hear from you.
